Excellence in Construction (EIC) Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors
(ABC). This prestigious award, in the category of Specialty Contractor – Electrical over
$10 Million, highlights our work on the Metro Water Services Central Wastewater
Treatment Plant (WWTP) Capacity Improvements & CSO Reduction Work Package in
Nashville, Tennessee.

This project, completed in collaboration with Metro Water Services and Brasfield and
Gorrie, L.L.C., showcases the innovation, dedication, and expertise that are hallmarks
of our team.

Meeting Critical Challenges with Innovative Solutions
The Central WWTP project was initiated to address a critical challenge: increasing the
plant’s capacity to manage peak wet weather flows without the need for additional
primary or secondary aeration tanks and secondary clarifiers. Our role involved
extensive electrical upgrades designed to:

• Enhance operational flexibility.
• Simplify maintenance.
• Increase system reliability.
• Support the plant’s overall improvement goals.

From navigating pandemic-related challenges to ensuring continuous plant operations
during construction, this project presented a unique opportunity to demonstrate our
commitment to excellence.

Highlights of Our Approach

Innovative Scheduling Programs
In response to COVID-19-related supply chain delays, our team implemented an
adaptive scheduling strategy. By short-shipping critical equipment, we overcame
potential bottlenecks and kept the project on track. This innovative approach ensured
progress without compromising timelines or quality.

Value Engineering for Cost and Safety Optimization
Our value engineering process included a standout solution: separating the incoming
plant feeders in the Main Switchgear pit. This strategy allowed us to safely isolate one side of the redundant power at a time, enhancing safety and delivering significant cost
savings—exceeding six figures—by reducing the need for temporary power solutions.

Rigorous Quality Control
We maintained the highest quality standards with an on-site representative and utilized
Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology. This allowed us to:

• Create detailed drawings for optimized constructability.
• Generate precise bills of materials.
• Develop accurate execution plans for every construction phase.

Productivity Enhancements
Our team completed the installation of over 288 pieces of switchgear equipment, along
with:

• 187,000 feet of conduit.
• Over 2.1 million feet of wire.
• A new plant-wide DCU instrumentation and control system with advanced features to boost operational capabilities.

This extensive work was completed while achieving an impressive 120,004 injury-free
working hours, showcasing our unwavering commitment to safety.

Overcoming Obstacles with Collaboration
Maintaining facility operations during construction was a critical requirement. To address
this, we developed Maintenance of Plant Operation (MOPO) plans in collaboration with
plant personnel. These plans enabled necessary shutdowns with minimal disruption,
ensuring continuous service while upgrades were made.

This project exemplifies our ability to overcome complex challenges and deliver
exceptional results. By combining innovative scheduling, value engineering, rigorous
quality control, and unmatched productivity, we successfully enhanced the Central
WWTP’s operational efficiency and reliability.
