Mr. Jimmy’s journey in the construction industry is nothing short of inspiring. After
earning his Electrical Engineering degree from Vanderbilt University in 1964, graduating
cum laude, he furthered his education with graduate studies in Traffic Engineering at
Yale University. Shortly after, he answered the call to join Stansell Electric, which his
father founded in 1940. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of a remarkable
career that spans decades.

From his early days working on Nashville’s traffic signals to managing groundbreaking
projects like the high mast lighting on I-65 and runway lighting for international flights at
Nashville International Airport, Mr. Jimmy has always approached his work with an
unwavering dedication to quality and innovation. His leadership helped shape Stansell
Electric into a trusted name in the industry.

Championing the Construction Industry
Beyond his contributions to Stansell Electric, Mr. Jimmy has been a steadfast advocate
for the construction industry. He joined ABC in the 1980s, navigating the company’s
transition to an open shop contractor and becoming a driving force behind the adoption
of ABC’s apprenticeship programs.

In 1987, Mr. Jimmy served as President of ABC Greater Tennessee, during which he
worked tirelessly to establish the statewide license for mechanical and electrical
contractors. His efforts not only benefited Stansell Electric but also strengthened the
industry as a whole, reflecting his belief that when the industry thrives, everyone
benefits.

Mr. Jimmy’s commitment to mentorship and collaboration has left an indelible mark. He
continues to enjoy visiting job sites, engaging with employees, and sharing the lessons
he’s learned over a lifetime of service.

In his son and current Stansell Electric CEO David Stansell’s words during the award
